To All riders-
As your president, I must dejectedly inform you that we have officially lost the use of the DeMarr road facility. We have spent months working with the property owners, and the county government, to no avail. All of our options, resources, and ideas have been exhausted.
This whole fiasco started back in May when the property owners received a letter from the Charles County Government informing them that they had received a land usage complaint. The complaint that they received had been filed stating that we were using the property as an “ATV Park” for which it had not been zoned. It also raised the issue of our excessive noise. So at this point the owners requested we stop riding on the property until further notice. What happened next was the county sent an investigative team to survey the property. At the conclusion of their survey they attached a “Stop Work Order” on our gate entrance. They had determined that the property, as zoned, was in violation as stated in the complaint. Since the motocross track was in fact outside of their zoning laws, we had no alternative but to shutdown......
------------------- We did however try to apply for a “special usage” permit on a ride per ride basis but that was also rejected by the county. After all was said and done, we had lost the owners support and they asked us to just please stop trying.
They have been kind enough to let us use their land throughout the years so I would like to give them special thanks. Their generosity was much appreciated.
So…I bet you’re wondering “where does that leave us?” Well, at this point in time, we are looking for new property to either buy or lease that will support our big riding habit. If you know of any property that may work for the club, please send me an e-mail with the information. All of your thoughts are gratefully accepted.
In other news, for the LPC members we are working with area track owners to schedule three exclusive rides just for you! If you had attended our monthly club meetings, you probably already know that we have been drawing two lucky LPC members name’s randomly to join us at an upcoming SMDR ride at Budds Creek. Also, we are offering the LPC members an option to work flagging at the Delmarva Motor Sport Park in exchange for three free rides. Please contact Steve Blinn on our website if you are interested. You may however request a pro-rated refund of you membership dues if you are unsatisfied with the club’s present issue of riding space. Once we receive a letter from you stating your intention we will mail you a check and remove your name form our club roster. The most helpful advice that I can offer you presently is to just be patient and wait while we are looking for a solution. If you have any suggestions, please e-mail them to me and they will be taken under consideration.
The club will be flagging Motocross the Nation’s race at Budds Creek on the 22nd & 23rd of September. For those of you who will work it (both LPC and SMDR members), Jonathan will host an exclusive picnic and ride at Budds on the 30th of September. So if anyone is interested, please contact me via e-mail. Remember, working the Nations is not a club event and it will not satisfy your workday obligation; it is on a voluntary basis.
Thank you to all those who have supported our long DeMarr struggle and to those who have sent in ideas and suggestions! I will keep you informed on all updates concerning riding property issues in future newsletters and club meetings. Be sure to attend for all the latest news!
